Equality Delivery System

1. Better Health Outcomes for all

Objective: Ensure that coaching and mentoring for doctors and dentists in training within the Oxford Deanery includes guidance on improving health outcomes across all protected characteristics.

Action Plan

  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to be reminded of the importance of patient-centred care
  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to be reminded of the NHS Operating Framework
  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to be reminded of the NHS Outcomes Framework
  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to be reminded of the NHS Code of Practice
  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to be reminded of the NHS Constitution
  • Deanery Educators & CDU coaches to update the Deanery on dates of their Equality and Diversity training.

 

2. Improved patient access and experience

Objective: The Deanery will work to improve the quality of patient care by ensuring that we create and manage systems to produce doctors and dentists who are educated, trained and motivated to play their part in a personal, fair and equitable health service, taking account of protected characteristics.

Action Plan

  • Ensure that the ARCP / RITA process progresses doctors and dentists in training who are capable of providing a safe, effective and caring patient experience.
  • Deanery Specialty Schools to work in partnership with training providers [Trusts & PCT s] to develop robust processes for sharing information on trainees involved in Serious Incident/critical incidences/near misses.

 

3. Empowered, engaged and well-supported staff.

Objective: The Deanery will provide timely updates to staff on strategic issues, for example the future hosting arrangements for the Deanery, taking into account their backgrounds.

Action Plan

  • Following fair recruitment and selection processes, staff will be engaged in appropriate communications on strategic issues.
  • Through support, training, personal development and performance appraisal, staff will be able to discuss their contribution to the strategic issues.


4. Inclusive leadership at all levels

Objective: The Deanery will seek to increase the delegation of tasks which will improve efficiency and effectiveness in working practices. Appropriate delegation will be responsive to the needs of people with protected characteristics.

Action Plan

  • Line managers will support and motivate their staff to increase their responsibilities in culturally competent ways.
  • The Deanery will recruit, develop and support staff to encourage leadership.
