What is the MTI?

The Medical Traininig Initiative ( MTI) allows overseas doctors to undertake up to two years of life and career changing training and experience in the UK.

Under the supervision of a fully qualified NHS consultant doctor, trainee doctors on the Medical Training Initiative ( MTI) receive core and/or specialty medical training to the same standards of UK national trainees. However, in most instances the training program is tailored to suit the Medical Training Initiative ( MTI) doctor’s educational objectives and will take into account the type of work done by the doctor upon returning home.

The scheme and the International Medical Graduates sponsored under it, have the backing of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and member Medical Royal Colleges, the Department of Health, NHS Employers, Skills for Health and the Deaneries.

Completed forms together with any supporting paperwork should be submitted to Vicky Beal, PA to Postgraduate Dean (, Telephone number:  01865 785556.
