Helen Falcon

NHS South Central Dental School Director/Postgraduate Dental Dean

Helen qualified in 1977 and worked in primary care in Hertfordshire, Wiltshire and Buckinghamshire for 25 years before specialising in dental public health.

She was appointed Director of Postgraduate Dental Education in the Oxford Deanery in January 2005 and to NHS Education South Central (Oxford and Wessex Deaneries) in 2007.

Her career has included time as a Vocational Trainer, Vocational Training Adviser, Audit Fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Research Fellow at the Eastman Dental Institute, and senior NHS Trust management roles. She has sat on a number of national dental working groups including Options for Change and the Patient Charges Working Group and has been a member of the British Dental Association’s CCCPHD Executive.

She is currently Vice-Chair of the UK Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans (COPDEND).

Research interests include dental general anaesthesia, the development of NHS dental services and priority setting for specialist restorative dental care. She has chaired working groups for dentists with a special interest in prison dentistry, developing guidelines for dental educators and an educational portfolio for dental foundation training.

She currently chairs the NHS South Central Clinical Simulation Strategy Group.
