Educator Development Programme

The Oxford PGMDE Educator Development Strategy

The Oxford Deanery's aim is to provide ongoing, recurring training across the Deanery patch to enable Educational Supervisors to demonstrate their competency to practice, and to facilitate discussions between an individual Educational Supervisor and their employing Trust around recognition of their role in terms of annual job planning and appraisal.

A variety of courses are held several times per year in different venues (usually Postgraduate Centres) to enable as many Educational Supervisors as possible to attend.

Currently the following sessions are being provided by the Oxford Deanery:

Essential Knowledge for Educational Supervisors and Clinical Supervisors:

These half-day sessions are being run by Associate GP Deans across the whole Deanery patch.

Sessions are being split according to the role, with some aimed at experienced Educational and/or Clinical Supervisors, in addition to a session specifically for consultants new to the ES and/or CS role. Flyers will state which session takes place on which date.

Details of dates across the Trust sites can be found by clicking on the relevant link below. Any Trusts not listed here are still being organised as dates are being added all the time. Please check back regularly as this page will be updated when the dates are confirmed:

Oxford University Hospital NHS Trust (John Radcliffe Hospital)

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (Stoke Mandeville Hospital)

Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading

Wexham Park Hospital, Wexham, Slough

Milton Keynes Hospital

Sessions involve some pre and post course work, and the opportunity to provide feedback via a short online survey.  Upon completion of feedback attendees will receive a certificate of attendance from the Deanery for their portfolio.

ARCP Masterclass:

Delivered by Dr David Bailey, ex Associate Dean, these half-day sessions are essential for any Educational Supervisors who participate in ARCPs (Annual Review of Competency Panels). All aspects of ARCPs are covered. These are organised as demand dictates therefore please contact Ruth Crawley on the email address below if you are interested in attending.

Trainee in Difficulty:

These are half-day workshops led by the Careers Development Unit and consist of a focussed session regarding the support and management of Trainees in Difficulty. The programme for 2011/12 has just come to an end but due to the popularity of the sessions, the Deanery will be organising more for later in the year.  Please check this page regularly for more information on future dates.

Please also visit the Careers Development Unit website for more information on the important role they play in trainee development.

Other training opportunities are being organised by the Deanery, and all information will be placed on this page as soon as it is released.  Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for their portfolio and to enable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points to be applied for.
