Academic Foundation Programme Interview Process


Shortlisted applicants will receive a notification email via Oriel from the week beginning 19th November 2018 with information and arrangements regarding their interview. 

Please note that we do not allow the use of telephone or video interviews in our application process.

The Oxford Foundation School will hold interviews for all 24 academic foundation programmes on 29th November 2018. Each candidate will be interviewed by a clinical and communication skills panel and an academic panel and they must pass both sections of the interview stations to remain in the AFP process.

What to bring to Interview

  • Original passport plus 1 colour photocopy of the front cover and signature/photograph page
  • 1 passport-sized photograph
  • Original evidence of right to work in the UK plus 1 colour photocopy
  • Additional degree(s) plus 1 colour photocopy


Please DO NOT staple or join pages together. CVs and any other additional information will not be required.

Travel Expenses

Interview travel expenses can be paid for applicants, subject to a maximum of £100. Please read the information on our interview expenses guidance webpage. Claim forms must be typed, printed and manually signed with receipts/tickets attached, the forms must be sent to the Oxford Foundation School, 4150 Chancellor Court, John Smith Drive, Oxford Business Park, Oxford, OX4 2GX.

Travel expense forms will not be accepted on the interview day under any circumstances.   

Offers Process

Following all local interviews, the national offer process begins on 16th January 2019.

Successful candidates will receive an email from Oriel with an offer of an academic foundation programme. In addition successful applicants will receive a letter directly from the Oxford Foundation School with full details of the academic programme offered.

Applicants have two working days to accept or reject any offer(s) made to them. If the applicant does not accept or reject the offer within this period, it will be assumed they have rejected the offer and it will be withdrawn.

A cascade process will be run until 14th February 2019 to appoint to any unfilled AFP vacancies. Applicants should refer to the full timeline in the UKFPO applicant handbook.

AFP Recruitment Feedback Process

Oxford Foundation School follow our own local process which is detailed on the feedback process on our website here.

Requests for feedback will only be accepted in writing between 19th February 2019 and 30th March 2019.
All requests will be completed within 40 calendar days as outlined in the Data Protection Act 1998.   

The Oxford Foundation School retains all recruitment information for a period of 13 months following interview.  After this time all recruitment material, other than statistics, is destroyed.
