This 2 year integrated Academic Foundation Programme is offered by Health Education Thames Valley in conjunction with the University of Oxford

2017 - 2019

We are seeking to appoint 24 candidates with academic potential who would like the opportunity to work in an academic environment or who are already committed to an academic career path. The posts will be based across several trusts during Foundation Year 1 and mainly at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust for Foundation Year 2, and are designed to deliver the core competencies of Foundation training, enhanced with an academic curriculum.

We are keen to encourage applications from talented candidates worldwide.

Only candidates requiring provisional registration and who have not completed a Foundation year 1 or equivalent will be eligible. Candidates must not have full GMC registration at the start of the programme (August 2017).

For more information please refer to the person specification and eligibility criteria on the UK Foundation Programme Office (UKFPO) website.

The full list of academic programmes available within Oxford Foundation School are available either via the Oriel Website

Trainees are encouraged to select their own area of interest for their research when completing an academic programme. A list of possible mentors is provided within the application pack.  Additional advice on this can be gained from OUCAGS (Oxford University Clinical Academic Graduate School) when you have been accepted onto the Oxford Academic Foundation Programme.

The Oxford Academic Foundation Programme interviews have provisionally been scheduled for 24 November 2016. Please be aware that Skype (with video) interviews will only be available to students who are on elective and not in the UK on the interview date. Proof must be obtained from your medical school and submitted to Oxford Foundation School at the time of application.

How to Apply

A nationally agreed online application form needs to be completed on Oriel between 3 and 14 October 2016.

This is followed by a locally-managed application, shortlisting and selection process.

Recruitment to the AFP is being undertaken this year by Units of Application (UoA). These may be either individual foundation schools, or foundation schools that have formed geographical alliances with other schools for the purpose of recruitment for academic places.

After completing the online form, you will need to select up to a maximum of two UoAs to apply to. You must check the website of each of these UoAs for their specific local recruitment processes including any additional information you must supply and the local deadlines and interview dates. Shortlisted applicants will be invited by the UoA to attend interview.

Further information regarding the national recruitment process and the Academic Foundation Programme can be found on the UKFPO website.

Oxford Foundation School has published an application pack which gives guidance in applying to the Academic Foundation Programme in Oxford.

Please note that we will not require applicants to submit a CV
